Aerial photography over the Pacific Northwest coast
Photographing the wild Pacific Northwest
I've been photographing the Pacific Northwest for over a decade, drawn endlessly back to the places where the land meets the sea — the Columbia River Estuary, the Oregon Coast, Svensen Island, the rocky headlands between Astoria and Seaside.
My work spans ground-level landscape photography and aerial imagery captured from my drone. There's something irreplaceable about the perspective you get from 200 feet up — the way a river delta reveals its full geometry, the way coastal rock formations look like abstract sculpture from above, the scale of the mountains against the valley floor.
I earned my FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate so I could pursue commercial aerial photography legally and professionally. The exam required months of study — airspace classifications, weather systems, sectional chart reading, emergency procedures — and it made me a significantly better, more aware pilot in the process.
My wildlife photography focuses on the birds and marine life of the Columbia River Basin and Oregon Coast — osprey, great blue herons, shorebirds, and the occasional seal or sea lion. Getting a sharp frame of an osprey making a strike involves patience, positioning, and a willingness to wait hours for a few seconds of action.
I'm a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and available for commercial licensing, editorial use, and select commissioned work throughout the Pacific Northwest.
